Announcement | Season 11 of The Dark Academicals and the Curriculum: Supplemental Studies

Is it insane to me that we’re about to start the eleventh season of our dark academia podcast, The Dark Academicals? You have no idea… But it’s happening!

Season 11 of The Dark Academicals begins streaming on Tuesday 1st July 2025.

We exclusively announced the titles for season eleven over on our Substack, The Dark Academicals Book Club, and there’s a whole lot of excitement for the new season over there and I’m about to tell you all about them too so you can be excited as well!

There’s some shiny new releases, a beloved classic, and what I think will be some hidden gems all tied up in season eleven and I’m excited about every single one of them.

So without further ado, the titles for the next season of the podcast are:

Good, right? I’m so excited.

  • ‘Blood Over Bright Haven’ by ML Wang - “The first woman ever admitted to a prestigious order of mages unravels a secret conspiracy that could change the practice of magic forever, in this standalone dark fantasy from the author of ‘The Sword of Kaigen.’” I’m really expecting to love this one! I’ve heard nothing but praise for ML Wang.

  • ‘Arcana Academy’ by Elise Kova - “A woman who wields magical tarot cards lands herself in a false engagement with the headmaster of a mysterious academy in this first installment of an enthralling fantasy romance series from the bestselling author of ‘A Deal with the Elf King’.” Sign. Me. Up.

  • ‘Northanger Abbey’ by Jane Austen - my beloved Jane Austen! This is Austen’s satirical look at the absurdity of the Gothic, and it’s one that I haven’t read in well over 10 years so I’m so excited to revisit Catherine and Henry.

  • ‘Voice Like a Hyacinth’ by Mallory Pearson - “Five young women eager for success rely on the unspeakable to make their dreams come true in a chilling novel about martyrdom, ritual, and obsession by the author of ‘We Ate the Dark’.” This couldn’t sound more perfect for The Dark Academicals.

  • ‘The Thorns’ by Dawn Kurtagich - “In this hauntingly twisted tale, an author reconnects with an old boarding school friend, forcing her to reckon with their shared past and the imaginary creature she thought they left behind.” Kurtagich is a favourite of Sarah’s and I’m ready to be terrified.

  • ‘And He Shall Appear’ by Kate van der Borgh - “When a young man arrives in Cambridge as a first-year student, he finds himself an outsider. There’s the punting and the politics, the wine and the waistcoats, all seemingly familiar to everyone but him. Then he falls under the spell of Bryn Cavendish [a] notorious party boy and skilled magician” Yes, yes, yes. Please.

These six incredible-sounding titles aren’t all coming up during this season of The Dark Academicals, we also have a brand new term of the Curriculum starting on The Dark Academicals Book Club, this time it’s Supplemental Studies.

Season 11 of The Dark Academicals begins streaming on Tuesday 1st July 2025.

Curriculum: Supplemental Studies begins on Substack on Tuesday 1st July. The episodes will be exclusive to our paid subscribers.
