We began the way all great cults begin: mutual obsession over a book that ruined us. The Secret History rewired our brain chemistry, and we’ve been chasing that particular brand of literary damage ever since.
One of us has a Masters in English Literature. The other in Professional Writing. Between us, we’ve got over 30 years of blogging, reading, and online bookish chaos under our belts; we’ve watched the community shift, splinter, glow-up, and grow more interesting with every passing year.
Eventually, we started The Dark Academicals; part podcast, part newsletter, part elaborate excuse to talk about morally questionable characters and why we love them.
We’re not here to gatekeep. We’re here to obsess, analyse, spiral a little, and maybe recommend you a new favourite along the way.
No coffee. No capes. Just two readers who believe in the power of story, the beauty of a well-placed metaphor, and the occasional descent into madness.
